PRESIDENTS FOREWORD

Dear Fellow Bowlers

Well here we are again, the summer is over and the winter season is in full swing. My first year as President of K.C.L.I.B.A. went by so quickly and I am now looking forward to my second year which I am sure will also fly by.

Thanks must go to all my fellow officers for their help in the past year, Violet Aldridge is now Senior Vice President and I know she will be a great help and support to me, Carol Smith Match Secretary, Joan Collins Competition Secretary, Jean Parsons Under 25s Secretary and Sheila Cotton Treasurer. Good luck and thanks also to June Chapple who has now left the K.C.L.I.B.A. committee.

It is my great pleasure to welcome two new officers to the fold: Pat Arnott from Dartford Stone Lodge as Junior Vice President and Joy Burton from Oyster as our new Secretary. I am looking forward to working alongside them.

This means we now have a full complement of officers.

I hope to meet many more of you in the coming season.

Best wishes and happy bowling.

Yours sincerely

Sue Swan

President – K.C.L.I.B.A. 2009/2010

ATHERLEY TROPHY

If at first you don’t succeed try try again. We know that we can do it as we have proved in the past, so let’s be positive and do it again.

This year we have the advantage of being the home team playing our first match against Hampshire at Mote Park on 21st November at 2pm. For this reason we played the two trial games at Mote Park, on the 4th and 11th October. We also used our inter-county league match against Sussex as a trial/ practice match. I am glad to report that we won by 76 shots.

Don’t forget to be considered for trial you still have to play two games for KCLIBA in the previous year, this gives us chance to get to know players and know how they perform. The two game rule does not apply to those players who have represented their Country in the previous season, either junior or senior as they have already proved their worth; they will automatically go forward for trial. We are very lucky to have several international players in Kent.

Val Staples has kindly agreed to be Atherley manager again this year.

TOUR

As I was not expecting to be President for a second term I have decided not to organise a county tour this year. However Irene Godfrey our England President still has spaces for her tour to Torquay in March, but they are filling fast. If you are interested you will need to contact her as soon as possible. Tel: 01843 291077 or email: igodfrey@talktalk.net

SPONSORSHIP

Senior Vice President Vi Aldridge has worked hard to get sponsors for KCLIBA. 50plus insurance sponsored our county finals day and has agreed to pay for this seasons fixture cards. These are available at our matches.

If you are interested or you know someone who may be interested in sponsoring a KCLIBA match for £25 contact Vi or our Treasurer Sheila Cotton. Each sponsor would be mentioned and thanked for their contribution.

WEBSITE

The website worked well last season. Joan Collins our Competition Secretary keeps it up to date with competition results etc.

COUNTY COMPETITIONS

The Two-Wood Pairs competition is to be held at Sevenoaks on Saturday 23rd January 2010. The round robin formula seems to be the most popular; ensuring everyone who enters has at least three games. Entry forms should be on your notice board now.

The County competition draw has been made on the computer to make sure that it is completely fair, and the competitions will begin soon.

FIXTURES

We started the season with a match against Bromley, followed 5 days later with a match against Ashford. We had a great time at both clubs with lots of laughter and good bowling.

These games are very popular, in fact for just one game we had 90 names for just 24 places, so please don’t be disappointed if you are not selected, try again. We will try our utmost to give everyone a game during the season.

On 3rd November KCLIBA and KCIBA will playing a mixed match against the EIBA at Mote Park. In view of unification we felt that men and ladies should be playing together. It will be a feather in Irene’s cap as England President to have the first EIBA mixed game played in Kent.

CLASH OF THE CODES

In an attempt to encourage more people to play bowls, for the first time in Kent the 3 versions of the sport – Short Mat, Indoor and Outdoor came together on Saturday 26th of September held at Dartford Stone Lodge and Halls outdoor club.

The event was co-ordinated by the Kent Bowls Partnership (which I have been involved in) representing all 5 County Bowls Associations, supported by Kent Sport, Leisure & Olympics Service and Dartford Borough Council and sponsored by the E.I.B.A. and Bowls England.

Representative teams competed throughout the day. The winning trophy was presented by EIBA Ladies President Irene Godfrey to a representative outdoor team, captained by Brian Wigmore.

Whilst the teams competed, over 30 members of the public came in for free to watch the players in action and have a go themselves. Many had never played bowls before or only played one version and were keen to try another.

It is hoped to make this an annual event if we can find indoor and outdoor clubs in close proximity to each other.
